Mishaps and More Cake

I was in the kitchen last night making some soup. It is one of our more favorite soups and quite easy to make. It is a butternut and apple soup from William and Sonoma! Delicious...but also off topic. Any way while I was pouring some of the hot pure into a pot so I could finish cooking it, I failed to notice that a plastic teaspoon had partially melted to the bottom of my pot...and then put the pot onto the burner.

Well needless to say pretty soon all of our windows were open to get rid of the melted plastic smell in our kitchen. We were spraying water onto the burner to quickly cool it down so we could avoid a nasty fire. Of course I had to take a picture in memory of a good teaspoon.

Why am I telling you this story? Well the whole experience taught me a lesson. When I first pulled the pot off the burner and discovered the spoon I quickly called Andrew into the kitchen so he could help me. He came in, took one look at the melted mess, looked back at me and broke into laughter. That of course set me into a giggling fit. I realized at that moment that the loss of the spoon was not a big deal and that laughing at the situation made the whole thing much easier to deal with. I hope that I can remember that later on in life when the melted spoon becomes a broken washer that flooded the first floor of the house or a two year old who has made my dinning room wall a coloring book just before company comes over. :)

As to the following picture, I finally figured out how to get pictures off of my camera if they are not on the memory card. So here is a better close up picture of the last cake that I made. Enjoy!

  1. Awesome cake... again. I wish I could be more like you and laugh at situations. I think I used to be, until I realized how expensive some things are. I need to do better though because situations like that are nothing in the grand scheme of things. They are nothing that is, until you make them something by reacting so badly. Anyway, way to stay positive.

  2. The cake looks great. And yes, just wait...you'll have lots more melted spoons in your life. :)(This is Sarah, not Corey. My email wasn't working for some reason.)
